Program Description

Course Overview

This course introduces key aspects of trail riding, including its benefits, proper horse and equipment selection, and how to prepare through nutrition and conditioning. Participants will also explore trail safety, first aid, transportation, etiquette, and strategies for preserving trails—helping ensure a safe, enjoyable, and responsible riding experience.

Each unit consists of an overview, informative topics including pictures and short video clips, plus optional activities. It is estimated to take 4 hours to complete the course.

Course Format

This self-paced online course provides participants with nine months of access to all course materials starting from the purchase date.

Certificate of Completion

Upon completion of the course, participants receive a downloadable certificate of completion. This course is not eligible for university credit.

Key Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate a horse’s conformation to support intended riding goals
  • Identify the benefits and types of trail riding opportunities
  • Select appropriate horses and equipment for trail use
  • Apply basic nutrition and conditioning practices for trail readiness
  • Demonstrate knowledge of trail safety, etiquette, and first aid basics
  • Prepare for trailering and participation in competitive and non-competitive rides
  • Recognize strategies for protecting and preserving trails
